Jardin planétaire
Inspired by the time it takes for trees to grow shade and the moments we pause to breathe beneath their shades, the time it takes to grow life, these pieces embody both time and transformation.
Jardim Planetário is a series in progress of large-scale textile artworks—cyanotype-printed on upcycled fabrics, exposed to the sun in Lisbon’s garden shades. Imitating the collective intelligence found in nature, Barbara Portailler sourced all textiles locally in Portugal and worked in collaboration with pairs. She is using high-quality fabric scraps from Celso de Lemos A & H and from vintage handmade linen. She has emarqued with visual artist Aurélie Mathigot and designer Lucie Schweitzer founder of Fantasque to collaborate on exclusive four-hands works.
Barbara Portailler is a visual artist & researcher based in Lisbon, deeply passionate about the cycles that shape materiality and collective memories. Working across photography, textile art, upcycling, video, ceramics, and storytelling, she explores the intersection of art and ecology.
“La photographie retient l'instant, l'indigo y ajoute une autre temporalité.
J'assemble autour des tissus comme des souvenirs. Le patchwork prolonge l'image,
l'indigo révèle l'absence. Tout se lie : regard, geste, matière.“
